MoBot was founded in 1859 and is the country’s oldest botanical garden in continuous operation. A National Historic Landmark with 79 acres of gardens and historic structures). Built in 1882, the Linnean House is the oldest continuously operated public greenhouse west of the Mississippi River. It is the only remaining greenhouse at the Garden built during Henry Shaw’s day (Shaw Gardens is the original name of MoBot). It was designed by noted architect George I.
